PCWIN/PECOC

The Pima County Wireless Integrated Network (PCWIN) – Pima Emergency Communications and Operations Center project is a $12-million, 62,500-square-foot facility designed to house the Pima County 911 Call Center and the Emergency Operations Center, which coordinates all first responders and other emergency personnel within Pima County for city and county emergencies. The occupancy and risk hazard increase required a complete analysis and upgrading of the existing building, especially for seismic activity, and an owner specification to provide a blast resistant design to those areas of the building which fronted along the street. Schneider Structural Engineers’ structural engineering design strengthened the existing structure with a new roof diaphragm of lightweight concrete, reinforced masonry shear walls and retrofitting of existing pre-cast concrete tees. This creative solution preserved much of the structure’s modern architectural integrity.
