Elmendorf Air Force Base Operations Facility & Hangars

Elmendorf Air Force Base Operations Facility & Hangars

Schneider provided the structural engineering for these three Elmendorf Air Force Base facilities, including a 42,400-square-foot, three-story steel operations facility with an attached 37,700-square-foot, a six-bay aircraft hangar and an additional 18,200-square-foot weapons loading training hangar. The Squad Ops structure houses offices, briefing/assembly areas, and specialty spaces for training and weapons storage. The adjoining hangar bay, a column-free space with 190-foot clear roof spans, is equipped with an overhead crane and fall protection systems. The weapons loading training hangar provides hands-on training of crews to load munitions on the F-22. These F-22 squadron support facilities are the first at Elmendorf to be designed utilizing the latest in seismic resisting technology, the buckling-restrained braced -frame (BRBF) system.
