Tucson International Airport Solar Canopy

Tucson International Airport Solar Canopy

The Tucson Airport Authority’s eco-friendly, state-of-the-art solar canopy is planned to cover the 12-acre main terminal parking lot. With the help of federal and state grants, this photovoltaic system will ultimately generate 2.5 megawatts of solar power (a 40%-45% reduction in non-renewable energy) that will feed into the airport’s central utility plant and serve the terminal complex.

Phase 1 of this project covers two acres of the parking lot with nearly 20-feet-tall solar canopies containing 4,998 solar modules. During this phase, the airport’s terminal complex will receive energy generation of 1 megawatt AC. Vegetated “green walls” with live plants are planned to help create a cooling microclimate effect in the parking area.
